Camera Mountable Stereo Microphones
« on: March 26, 2011, 10:54:19 PM »
I'm looking for a good stereo microphone under $500.00 I can mount on my new Sony NX5U HD camera. I will be using it for indoor and outdoor rock concerts. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Be very careful - it's normally a very bad idea to put a stereo mic. on a camera.

The stereo image shifts and moves as you move the camera and is quite nasty to listen to.

It's really OK only for very short action shots where the shifting stereo image is part of the effect.

It's normally much much better to have a stereo mic. stationary and off-camera.

I will second Mr. Willett's advice and go farther: It's a bad idea to mount any mic on the camera, unless it's a very tight shot.  I don't do much audio for video, but my experience confirms the advice I was given a couple of years ago which is get the mic off the camera.
