« on: November 15, 2004, 09:18:35 PM »
what do you guys think of the DAC..? i remember nick (picks) was pretty hot on this unit. do any of the rest of you have any ideas/thoughts/experiences with this thing..?

is $360 a good price..? (it's too late, as i have already pulled the trigger, but i was just wondering what to expect...

item description:

"This unit has the full Bolder Cable Mensa Mods and the tweakers' recommended Stancor power supply. I will also include the original power supply. As part of the Mensa Mod the Di/O's RCA digital input is replaced with a BNC input. I will also include a Signal Cable BNC to RCA cable."

Pretty good deal. Isn't it a 16-bit D/A, though? These days I'd look for something 24/96 capable or better.
Out of the game … for now?

Sorry, I must have had something else in mind. Please ignore the above. :)

A friend of mine had one and enjoyed it. I guess his source material is only CD (16-bit), which is where I made the mistake of thinking the unit was only 16-bit. I don't think he had the Mensa mods, just the "smART DIO." He's since moved on to another DAC.

As for the price, I'd say that's right in the neighborhood of what they're fetching on Audiogon these days. If you don't like it, you're unlikely to lose a lot on reselling.
