Oade m 248?
« on: October 26, 2006, 04:05:10 AM »
I looked in the archives couldn't find anything about the 248.  I have one that I recentlyh bought, and am wondering about the the filters.
What frequencies do the high pass and low pass cut at, how long does the internal battery last, and how do most people run this unit as pertains to running as hot as possible, in the middle or with as little gain as possible.  Thanks

we (innis and i) run a m248 in our rig.

typically mk series (schoeps) cmc6 > m248 > mme > tascam hd-p2 (24/96)

it won't run for 6hrs, at least ours won't, but it will get one show fine (more like 3-4hrs)
i don't remember the specs of the HF and LF filters.

i've taped a few shows w/one on a single charge.
id say 4 hours is more realistic.
maybe its the 148 that i'm thinking of, which Doug designed to work around a 3 night run on a full charge

The 248 runs about 4hrs in my experience...my 148 will run considerably longer (12hrs perhaps on new batteries).  I've made the mistake of thinking the 248 will do two shows...don't try it.  I forget where the filters are set as well...call Doug Oade, he'll tell you.  I've also found in my experience that the 248 sounds best at the lowest gain setting you can get away with.  If you run it hot, it will wreck the highs.  When running it w/ my ad1000 I opened the AD all the way up and added 248 gain as necessary.  Now running it with the 722 I open the 722 up but still give my self 3db or so on the 722, add as little gain as possible, then adjust w/ the 722 just b/c it's easier.

I am pretty sure the HPf rolls off starting around 45Hz, but I do not know the slope/octave. I don't think that number is exact; Doug said it  was around there....

I emailed Doug a few months ago about what frequencies do the high pass and low pass cut at and asked the gain .How much total gain does it have and he respoded by saying "I am sorry to say that I do not remember that info for the M248"I
am leaking too much gray matter (into my beard and hair) to have retained that info.
