Post by: jmz93 on May 30, 2007, 12:06:45 PM
Does anybody have a preference between the Church Audio or Sound Pros small preamps with analog out?
Chris, in Ontario Canada

I'll go with Chris because of several reason:

- He's a reliable seller
- He does mods on the preamp and custom the pre as you desire
- Chipsets used on the CA Pre's are better than SP pre's so... I might assume that sound quality should be better.

If I should upgrade my analog pre I'll go with CA definetily. And I'm Sure I will in a few months...

I have the SP preamp with output level control and it works great.  At +50dB there is no noise, only ambient sound from raised sensitivity.  I know Chris Church makes quality devices and I am apt to believe every positive thing I read about his stuff.  I'm partial the the SP amp because I know if works well from experience.

Ture, although Chris from SP is also a good guy.  Seems to be a lot of guys named Chris in this thread.... :D

I too have the little preamp from SP.....The last 2 shows I tried to record with it I got a lot of brickwalling...one loud..one not so much....Been tempted to get one (9100) from CA to see the difference...but unfortunately de fundz are low....Got a 3 wire batt box to run between the mics (AT 943 and 853 ...both 3 wire trs) and pre but haven't had a chance to test it at a show yet.......
Both Chris's are very nice to deal with but Chris from CA is a regular here and he has many happy customers (here).......Chris from Sp also posts here from time to time but not nearly as often as Chris from CA

I hope this makes sense...I ran out of my pain meds :smoking2: and have had to resort to drinking heavily   :drunk:..

Peace ,
jk

Actually there has been a new law that just passed anyone making preamps must be named Brad or Chris. Or the preamp can not be sold.. :) Just kidding I am sorry I could not resist.  ;D

Their last names both start with C too.  Chris C and Chris C.

I have had great expereinces with both guys.  I have owned the Church Audio 9000, 9100 and the SP-PREAMP.
Unfortunatly I have not owned them at the same time to compare.  My guess is the Church Audio sounds better, but Sound Pro's has more gain.  The Sound Pro's box was designed by Dick Campbell who is famous for building tiny circuits.  They are both great products.
