First time with AD20 - Need Your Help
« on: April 15, 2007, 10:50:06 AM »
hi guys,
yesterday I tried the AD20 in my rig for the first time. I used a right angle toslink to 3,5mm optical cable to connect it to my JB3. I set ad20 levels at about 10/11 o'clock. during the first songs I sometimes checked the level meters on jb3 (I had to unlock/lock it a few times to make the backlight turn on). Now I'm trasnferring and editing the recording on my pc and I'm very happy with it...but I noticed something strange: in some points there are some "noises" that I can not explain. Here's an audio file that explains that much better (the "noise" is @ between 00:19" and 00:20"): http://www.sendspace.com/file/i9f2mt

I hope you can help me finding the cause. when I unlocked the JB3 to check the levels I noticed that they bumped for a fraction of second to the "clipping zone" but I can't say if this is the cause (in this case I will find another way to check the levels without unlokcking the JB3). maybe some cables jack that suffered of some movement? I tried to make a recording some minutes ago trying to move the jacks a bit but this did not cause any kind of noise in the recording.

please let me know...bye  ;)

I have the same thing happen on occasion. I believe it's because the AD20 runs so hot... (+17db with the gain on 0) It's safer to run the AD20 at a lower gain setting and boost the volume later. That recording can be fixed.... if you run a pop/click filter on it, it should clean it up a bit..

uhm...it's not because I've not faith in you but I don't think this is the case...I feel like it's more like a cable that I maybe moved too much when I checked the levels (putting out my JB3 from my belt-bag)

listen to this very short sample (at about 00:07" to 00:09"): http://www.sendspace.com/file/uutnxe
