MT 24/96 Phanton power
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:20:08 PM »
howdy folks. I've got MBHO603's, Deneke AD-20, PS-2, and a M-Audio Microtrack 24/96. Want to go digitally from PS-2 modified SPDIF to MT SPIDF.  Can I use the MT phanton power to power the MBHO's?

I think you mean you want to go digitally from the AD-20 S/PDIF to the MT2496?  This you can do, but not while simultaneously using the MT2496's phantom power.

The order of functions must follow this order:  mics > power > gain > ADC > recorder.

The gear in your list that matches those functions are:  mics (MBHO) > power (PS-2) > gain (AD-20) > ADC (AD-20 S/PDIF output) > recorder (MT2496 S/PDIF input).

If you want to use the MT2496's phantom power with the above gear, your only option is:  mics > recorder.  Gear/function map would then be:  mics (MBHO) > power (MT2496) > gain (MT2496) > ADC (MT2496) > recorder (MT2496).

Excellent post. I am along with your suggestions- just wanted to make sure I wasn't carrying/powering unnecessary gear.

Then I would think you gotta go MBHO>PS2>AD20(SPDIF)>MT

If you want to run just the MBHO>MT using phantom power, I would test it thoroughly at home before taking it out in the field. The MBHO's are power-hungry mics, and I have a feeling that the pre's in the MT are not exactly high-current designs. I thought I read that they only output 30V phantom in reality despite being spec'd at 48V?   ???
