Title: Sharp MiniDisc Question
Post by: RJPass on December 03, 2003, 05:32:28 PM
Hey guys, im new to the boards, and i'd like to say hello  =)

First off, my rig consists of:

Sharp MD-SR60 MiniDisc Recorder
Sound Professionals Premium Slimline Cardoid Mic's
Sound Professionals Mini Battery Box with Bass Roll Off

Ive taped various shows, and i think ive got it down pretty good.  Ive had excelent results, but theres 2 things i want to do and maybe you guys can help me out here.

I taped a Soulfly show earlier this year, and i ran out of juice during the set.  Obviously it didnt get a chance to record a TOC.  I wanted to know if anyone has done the TOC Trick on this Model number of MiniDisc so i can get at least some of this show.  IF you know how to do it, or can reffer me to someone that knows how to do it, and is in the Los Angeles area, it'd be nice  =)

Also, right now my sound transfers are done analog line out *ducks*....

I want digital.   What equipment do you recommend me to use to transfer my stuff quickly (May not be possible) but digitally?

Thanks a lot in advance guys, i appreciate it  =)

P.S.  My list of shows can be found here: http://rjpass.kicks-ass.net:828/Bootlegs/Masters/ (http://rjpass.kicks-ass.net:828/Bootlegs/Masters/)

You need to get a MD home deck with digital (optical) outs.  I recommend a Sharp model because you have a Sharp portable.  However, these will still be real-time transfers.

Then that would also mean that i need to get a sound card or another device that will accept the optical line going out of the minidisc deck right?

I dont have one of them  =\

yep. i've done the TOC trick many a times, but not on that model #.  you're probably in luck and that you got everything before the batteries clunked out. just make sure you don't touch that md before you try and recover it.

Can you give me somewhat of a clue as to what i need to do?  I'd rather hear it from someone that has had personal experience with this issue.

Where do you live?  lol  Do this for me please  =)

I just got the TOC error, I opened it up as far as I could and blew into it.  That worked a little...then I got pissed and smacked it into my hand.  That fixed it from the error, just said no disc, so I did it again and it works just fine now

Probably not the best thing but it worked

Before asking this question, extensive research had gone into doing this lil TOC project of mine, and it didnt work.  After all that and then this, i tried it again, and i got it to work.  All that work for a true blank minidisc  =P

At least i know i can clone a TOC on my MiniDisc after all.

Thanks to all for reading and responding!

hmm looks like you don't need me anymore.  well for those who want to know more info...

essentially the what you're trying to do is to swap discs without the mini-disc player knowing you ejected the tape.  for a 722, you start with taking out the batteries, covering the little switch that tells the md player when a tape is inside.  if there's a disc inside the switch is pressed on by the disc.  when you eject,  the disc comes out and the switch shoots up because the disc is no longer on top of the switch.  by covering the switch with tape or something, the md player will never always think there's a tape inside.  after convering the switch.  put in a disc with no disc space left, ie it's full. (make sure both the tape you're cloning and the disc to be cloned are the same length.  important).  put in batteries. start up the player.  give the disc a new name to dirty up the TOC and eject the disc.  put in the disc with the faulty TOC and shut down the MD player and let it edit the TOC.  if all goes well you can now see what's on the disc.

as far as your digital conversion needs, I just bought a Sony MXD-D400 and an Terratec EWX 2496 digital soundcard.  I'm trying it out tonight, if you have any questions lmk.
