I am about to use my R-09HR for the first time tonight and have a couple questions. I note that the R-09HR has a "low cut" setting... is this advisable to use? I am running my Coresound mics from back in the day which already have bass roloff, but frankly I usually find they need to be rolled off even more than that... I assume everyone is going to say "do it in post processing" but anyway, if the low-cut feature on the R-09 has proven useful for you, please let me know.
Also, what is the difference between running through the line-in vs. using the "mic" input but putting sensitivity low and turning the plug-in power setting to off? Again, from my D-8 days I assume line-in is always the default move, but if there is a difference, I'd appreciate the input.
In case anyone has read this far and wants to keep offering more advice, any thoughts on what new "stealth" mics are the best option? I am leaning toward Sound Professionals CMC-8 cardiods and maybe getting the omnis too, but I also hear about the Church audio mics. I also listened to some DPA 4061 recordings and loved the sound of those, but for now probably won't invest that much cash.
I record mostly indie/modern rock in small to medium sized venues...
Thanks.
