Zoom H4n and Edirol R-09HR - anyone have both?
« on: August 03, 2009, 11:12:27 AM »
Does anyone have both a Zoom H4n and an Edirol R-09HR? If so, could you complete a few comparisons of the units (taping the stereo should be fine for this):

ADC from a line-in
Internal mics

I am micless, and generally do SBD recordings now. The thought of having 4 track SBD/AUD with the one recording device interests me. But, I love the ADC sound and build quality of the R-09HR (and its internal mics aren't bad FWIW either).

The HR is certainly better built than the ultra cheapo R-09, but mostly because they replaced the external plastic with the rubbery textured material.  I would say the Sony D50 and the Olympus LS-10 are much more sturdy and less cheap feeling than the HR.  That said, I do think it's a great all around small recorder.

Re: your question, don't have any experience with the H4n.  :P

I dont have either But follow this pro sumer field recorder biz avidly.  IMHO this is apples & Bananas :)
H4N is a good 2nd gen 4ch unit for making sound board + ambient matrix possible.
09 HR is a quality built 2ch OR internal mic unit. Different targets.
