Topic: sound forge 8 - need help saving 2gb files!

Hey yall,
Taped Bonnaroo in 24/96 so now I have multiple files at 2gb.  I went to mix my M/S signal in SF8 and I get the "cant save b/c it's over 2gb" message.

How Can I work around this and still be able to have seemless splits when I put it all together?  It was a 3.5hr show.

Open them with CD Wave and split them into smaller files

it won't even let you mix the mid and side signals?  or are you trying to save the massive 3.5 hour file after mixing?

the short answer to your question, assuming i'm reading it correctly, is you DON'T save at that point.

the only 24/96 files i personally save are raw master files, exactly as they come off the recorder, and then individual 24/96 files after tracking the show, adding fades, et al.

I join my files for each set, do my fades, any EQ and normalizing, and then pick a convenient mid-set song break to split the file in two.  Then when I resample to 16 bit, I have two files, which I then rejoin exactly, and save the final rejoined 16 bit file, and delete the two separate files.  I wish there was an easier way, but at least this keeps your editing of the entire set intact.

Use Adacity

Open first file

import 2nd file and copy & paste to first file

close 2nd file

repeat as neccessary  [a 3 1/2 hour show would mean you should have 4 files right?]

Export as wave.  Make sure you have the 24 bit PCM file save checked in preferences.

This will save 1 huge wav of the whole show. Open in cdwav.

Split at 1 hour throughtout the show.  It doesn't matter where just as long as it's under about 61 min. 
Preferably a song split.  Save the files.  Again make sure you have alternate 24 bit checked in preferences.

You will now have again 4 files or so each under 61 minutes.  Now open em all up in Soundforge.

Again do the copy and paste thing as with Audacity.  Perform your edits.  Not sure if your ultimate goal is 16/44. If so do that at this point and put a marker at the beginning and end of the set.  Change markers to regions and export.  Now should have a solid 16 bit wav to open in cdwav and track.  done.

If you want the 24 bit do the above but put markers every 60 minutes or so.  Change them all to regions and save.  Then rejoin in Audacity and save.  Track with cdwav.  done.

Or you could use Samplitude.  It rules.
