V3 as an ADC??
« on: July 24, 2006, 11:57:06 PM »
Can this be done with this unit?  I always took advantage of the pre>ADC functions and I cannot think of a way to bypass the pre-amp section.  Jumpers?

i have run m148>v3 as others DO and was pretty damn happy, but after hearing just the pre of the v3 lik i am running(*except into a 722) i can honestly say, the AD in the v3 could be better, but if thats your goal, i think pre>v3 would be great ;D i still think the pre cannot be bypassed but the grace pre adds a nice touch still IMO, and like i said, i was happy w/ the 148>v3 the one time i ran it, others run this combo exclusively :) try it out and see how ya like it :)

if i didnt get a 722 awhile back, i prolly wouldve bought a sax to run into the v3 and stayed 16-bit so.......

what pre do you want to run in front? and FWIW, i used no pad in front of it, the 148 runs at 20db, so i used minimal gain(about 15db) on the v3 to get perfect levels

From the V3 manual...

Quote
The V3 can be used as a line level A/D converter. If input signal levels are not expected to exceed +15dBu (i.e. consumer unbalanced signal from a CD player, DAT recorder, home stereo receiver or cassette deck) then simply connect an unbalanced signal into the V3, set the input gain control to 10 and adjust the trim control for optimum recording levels. See the figure below for proper unbalanced input termination. If professional balanced signals are to be used, set the internal 20dB input attenuator jumpers. Remember to reset these before recording with a microphone again.

...and...

Quote
INPUT ATTENUATOR JUMPERS Jumpers J3 and J4 select the 20dB input attenuator for channel 1. Jumpers J14 and J15 select the 20dB input attenuator for channel 2. These should be set for –20dB when the V3 is to be used with professional line level input signals.

...and...there's a jumper diagram in the manual, as well.

I am picking up a new one from Grace on Friday and a friend wants to use it at Rockygrass.  My buddy has a BillBox and wants to run it in front.  I am just not sure how it would happen.  But then again I am pretty strung out on heat and no sleep...
Hey congrats Keith!  It's seriously one of the best boxes I've ever owned...and yeh...it's hot as fuck down the road too.  105 with 60% humidity yesterday, no A/C.
Socks are overrated.
