I got in a huge argument about hdmi cables being digital and it not mattering on price, etc on my offroad message board.  Its hard to talk sense into people that believe the guy at best buy selling them the $100 hdmi cable knows what he's talking about.

I found these to be some good reads:
http://www.audioholics.com/education/cables/long-hdmi-cable-bench-tests

Also...this is the good one to show people who claim their monster hdmi cable is better than yours:
http://www.audioholics.com/education/cables/long-hdmi-cable-bench-tests/hdmi-cable-testing-results
(note how the Monoprice $9 cable is just as good as any in the lot)

The cable I got free with my PS3 costco bundle is total crap though.  It passes a signal just fine when it stays plugged in...but thats just bad craftmanship.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

I agree, Monoprice is probably the best place to pick up cables.  Because it's a digital signal (0s and 1s) it either works or it doesn't.  Also, HDMI is better than component cables, if for no other reason, the audio is better.

By the way, I installed the meritline HDMI cables, yep, they still slip out...its definitely the TV, so to keep the cables in place I twisted the cord up towards the TV and taped it to the TV to keep them in place so they don't slide out on their own.

You might want to check these out.  I don't use these particular ones myself, but I do love bettercables' products, I use them for my favorite analog cable runs.
