How to power my jb3 for a weekend (bonnaroo)
« on: February 19, 2004, 07:09:02 AM »
How can I power this sucker after the two batteries die out???  I guess I could buy like 10 batts...but that would be pointless.  Is there any DIY batts for the JB3???

i was thinking about this too, i was actually just gonna get 2 extra batts and keep em charged at all times, thats 12 hrs for 2 sets, so thats anywhere from 8-12 acts ;)

i personally would just buy an extra set, and charge them overnite w/ a gas p[owered compressor/charger/thing(thats what my buddies had at IT, i just didnt need to use it....

how long does it take the jb3 to fully charge the jb3 w/ 2 batts ???

i didnt note how long it took mine :P

or if they charge fast, just get a simple power inverter for the car, and charge them every chance you get 8)

save them for the latenite sets, everyone tapes the others ;)

any gas powered generator would work

you can find those power inverters anywhere, even wal-mart

yeah it would be a little overboard for charging a jb3

if there was like a ts.com camp then a generator might be neccesary

the inverters arent much, <100 bucks for the powerfull 300w ones

check on ebay, might be able to snag a cheap one there

I'm considering making up a few RC battery packs, each with a 5v voltage regulator.  I've always been able to befriend vendors and recharge off the AC feed from their/the festival's generator.

Anyone know of an external charger available for the JB3 batts?

biggest decision about bonnaroo...tape a few bands that i really want my own tape of and enjoy the rest of the weekend, hoping that others will tape the bands and spread the shows, or tape a ton, somewhat ditch my friends and come home with a ton of recordings.

i'm leaning toward the tape a few bands idea...doesn't just about everything at bonnaroo get taped anyway?

i'm gonna have to look around the site for battery power ideas tho, just incase.

You could build a battery pack for almost any voltage using the cells for RC car batteries.  There is a chain of stores called "Batteries Plus".  They can custom build about anything battery wise if you don't think you can do it yourself.  What is the voltage of the DC input on JB3s?

I believe it's 5v, +/- a a couple tenths either direction.

Would a 4.5 volt SLA like for M1 and D100s work for a JB3?

although I haven't tested it extensively, a 4.8V RC battery works.  I had to put one of the 9.6V plugs on the end of the cords to fit my charger.  I will test it fully tonight and let you know how it works.
