File storage/sharing sites.
« on: June 29, 2011, 03:33:54 PM »
Hello.  I'm interested in finding a good place to upload recordings.  It's pretty slow sending audio files via e-mail, so it would be nice to find a Flickr or You Tube for audio recordings.  Then to share just send someone a link.  I read the posting by "Seance Mascara" about having files removed from MediaFire, and wanted to know if this is a popular site used by folks here, or if there are other good ones out there....

yeah, if you're not posting the links across the internets (just sending to friends or bands), then mediafire, megaupload, sendspace, iput.it, and fyels.com all work well.

I've used pando for a few years now.  It allows you to send up to 1GB files via email, web link ect.  Just have to have the entire show zipped, and for the other person to have pando to open the file.  But it's free, and doesn't come with any add-on spyware or anything.  A nice way to trade outside of snail mail.

I've become a big fan of dropbox.  Starts at 2 GB of free space and gives you a direct link to the file - you don't even have to visit the site to download the files - no ads, pop ups or spyware.

If you sign up by this link:  http://db.tt/V5qxTXL, both you and I will get an extra 0.25 GB of space, so you'll actually start with 2.25 GB of space.

Thanks for all the great info, I'll be checking these sites out.  I am happy to see these site are available, I got used to sending links to my photos on flickr instead of e-mailing pictures and it's nice to see I will be able to do the same with audio files.  Thanks again...

I'm a big fan of dropbox. Been using it for about a year (I think) with no issues. Pretty simple for what we want to do.

On a different note, thats still kinda related....I've got the dropbox Android app on my phone...which allows me to download .torrent files to my phone and then dropbox them in to an automatic launch folder on my home PC and uTorrent fires it up. That combined with Subsonic media streamer has made these long Summer road trips quite nice.

There was a thread about it somewhere in the open section, a guy's files all got yanked for copyright violation, and we think it was by mistake.

5GB max files.  Free to upload/download.  Files stay on their servers as long as people are downloading them at least once within a 30 day period.   I use it daily.
