NJ3 Recordings gone wrong
« on: February 29, 2004, 05:50:02 PM »
I would like to hear some Nj3 recording with glitches in them. I would like to here what they sound like. Is it clicks and pops(can be fixed) or drop outs?? If anyone has anything that they can post a small mp3 that would be cool

i can send you a MP3 ... but the problem was'nt the JB3 realy, the optical miniplug was not in all the way, other then that i have been audible error free for 100+ hrs of recording.

PM if you wish to hear some digi-pops. ;)

In my case, it was running out of particular sources - ie: panasonic 3700 & a Tascam DA-P1.  Pops are like static, quite obvious looking at the waveforms in an editor.  Same with dropouts - periods of no signal, however short they happen to be.

It seems to be more a function of bad cable, or incompatible input signal.

i used to get them on an occasion when i'd run line in and not optical in.  the glitches sound more like misplaced samples, like part of the song got mixed up with another part of the song for a split second.

i'll have to go thru my collection and see if i have any examples...i try to edit them out tho, but i might be able to find something.

Hmm, do you think if you don't defrag the drive it might cause those kinds of errors?  Just wondering.  I haven't done any taping with my njb3 yet, but i will be using the line and was thinking a defrag may be in order before i do such a thing.  Not sure if the previous owner ever defragged the drive as they sent it to me filled with 15 gigs of mp3's.

when i started to notice this happening, i'd format the drive before going out on a taping adventure.  whether it be for a weekend or just one show.  if i couldn't get the files to a computer, then i'd let it slide, but i'd try to transfer stuff as soon as i could, then i'd format before i went out to the field again.

i never had a problem with it when i did that.  *shrug*
