Time To Start A JB3 Forum?
« on: March 01, 2004, 10:05:24 AM »

Though there are specialized JB3 sites, there are enuf people on here that use them, and enuf questions asked about them regarding input, power, etc. (and enuf users confused about WHAT FORUM is appropriate for a given question), that maybe it's time to add a Nomad Jukebox forum in here?

I dunno, what do ya'll think?

I think we should pre-emptively create a SD 722/744 forum.  :P

The forums we have today address the broad issues with which we, as tapers, deal on a regular basis.  It just doesn't make sense to me to create a device-specific forum, whether it be the UA-5, JB-3, or any other piece of gear, for several reasons:

[1] Most of the JB3/gear-specific questions/issues are merely repeats of issues already discussed.  IME, the search engine works GREAT, especially when limiting the search to the appropriate forums, and users should be encouraged to utilize this functionality (who, ME, plugging the search engine?  Never!).

[2] There's a helluv a lot of talk about other gear as well.  Why not have forums dedicated to 480s, 390s, V3s, D7/D8s, D100/M1s, an ADK A51TLs, and of course UA5s?  There's enough discussion of several of these pieces of gear to support dedicated forums.

[3] Users already post threads in inappropriate forums because they perceive certain forums don't receive the traffic necessary to produce an answer to their question/issue.  Further fragmenting the forums would simply exacerbate this issue.

[4] I personally believe it would be more useful to have a JB3 FAQ similar to and more expansive than the UA5 FAQ I recently posted in the Archival Info forum.  I just haven't gotten around to it, though others are welcome to give it a go.

Hmmmm.

Quite reasonable explanation.

I bow to your logic...
