MD decks
« on: April 29, 2004, 07:20:01 PM »
I'm an ex-MD taper, but I have a pile of old MD's around with some great material on it.  In the past, I've just transferred them to my computer via analog.  I would like to have another go at some of those recordings, and do a digital transfer.  What's the cheapest solution to find an MD player with optical out?  New or used?
My portable rig:

karl;
i would look on Ebay for a used standalone player with either optical or coax outputs.  you can always double check a deck's output at minidisc.org.

i've seen some Sony decks sell for very cheap prices (less than $75).

"Mics? What mics? This is my hat."

you can definitely find one for that cheap, I'd do that if I were you.

In the summer I will be selling all my MD crap including my deck, I just need to finish converting the shoe box full of masters. even though minidisc was good to me, the jb3 makes me want to say "good riddance."

best investment ever

Sound Devices MP-2 / bm2p+ Edirol UA-5

The first MD deck I had was a Sony.  Unit never gave me any problems, but there are people who had problems with the loading mechanism.  500 series I think is what I had?.?.?.  I now have a Teac MD5.  In comparison it does seem a bit sturdier.

I just sold a deck on ebay for like $46 last month... they are really cheap.

Just make sure you get one with a digital out- sony's lower, cheaper models don't have digi outs.
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.
