Title: Powering an E-MU 0404 USB

Even though I've given up (http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,108255.msg1585752.html#msg1585752) on using this bad boy with a laptop, it can still be used as an analog preamp, so I'm interested in running it off batteries. It wants 5VDC, so I'm wondering which is the better approach - run 4xNiMH for 4.8V, or regulate a 6V source down to 5V?

I guess that they drop below the threshold very quickly. No harm trying though, if you go for 2500mAh Eneloops or Sonys, perhaps they have a flatter discharge curve. But I doubt it would last an entire show anyway.

Without being an expert, I'd say you'd be pretty safe running 6V into the 0404. Most modern electronics have that much tolerance upwards, the risk of frying it should be minimal. Or use a voltage regulator if you want to be 100% sure.
