Another newbie needs his hand held....
« on: January 18, 2005, 01:10:28 PM »
Having discovered that my iRiver mp3 player can be used as a HD recorder, I'm thinking of investing a little more money and getting the rest of the equipment needed to do some taping. I've read through all kinds of threads here, looks like many people get started using SP equipment, but now I need some more specific advice.

I'll be taping rock music in clubs or theaters (e.g. the Paradise in Boston MA, Somerville Theatre in Somerville MA, Middle East in Cambridge MA, Lupo's in Providence RI).
Definitely need stealth equipment.
I can spend up to $300 for mics plus battery box.

1) Need suggestions for SP mics (or any reason I shouldn't go with SP)
2) Need suggestions for SP battery box (or any reason I shouldn't go with SP). Should I get bass rolloff? Level control?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The CMC-8's are a good pair of mics to start with; I'd put more of your $ into mics and then upgrade the rest of your equipment as you get the urge. Either the SPSB-1 or SPSB-2 would fit your budget and power your mics - I own the SPSB-2 with a lower-end pair of mics (my stealth setup) and they've treated me pretty well. :)

Can't pimp the SP C4's enough.
