On windscreens..
I ordered five Movo WST50 direct from Movo to try in place of the BAS in my OMT rig before the Suwannee Roots fest weekend before last, but they mistakenly sent WST100s instead, and I just returned them today for the 50's. I asked if WST60 or 70 might be available as those are likely to be a more optimal fit for my mics, but was told those have not been made in years and there is no remaining stock.
Because I already had one, I did use a single WST80 in place of BAS in the center M/S position in my rig. In trying to stretch the rubber cuff to get the head of the Naiant X-8 through it I ended up ripping the rubber cuff, but just gaff taped that up. There was no significant wind all weekend so no test on that account. I will listen to see if I can hear any difference in high-frequency attenuation in that center M/S position in comparison to other recordings made at the same venue, but the PA had been changed and the mix sounded brighter listening live without earplugs, so a good feel for response differences between the Movo and Shure screens will have to wait.
Expecting some rain I spent a good bit of time building some "rain hats" which I planned to attach to each windscreen individually, as it would take a rather big umbrella to cover the directional mics of the array, and something the size of a patio umbrella if I wished to cover the spaced omnis too. Made these up from "trim to fit" HVAC filter material to break up and disperse rain-drop impact, with water-proof umbrella fabric adhered to the bottom with spray-adhesive, all of which was then treated with water-repellent along with the wind-creens themselves. Will post photos, notes, and test results of all this at some later point. Fortunately the weather was great so those things went unused, staying packed in the car at camp all weekend.
