744T Record Track Time Defaults
« on: December 12, 2011, 10:54:04 AM »
So I ran my somewhat recently acquired 744T last night w/ Schoeps on stage at a local venue and to my surprise the deck seemed to decide that it would record each file at about 27 mins or so in length - resulting in about 5 tracks instead of the expected 1.  Hoping someone can tell me if there's a menu setting that I need to tweak so this thing will record greater lengths to capture a full set as a single file.  Is there a default that I don't know about?  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
E

My 722 breaks off a file at 1 hour run time, which for some reason I can't remember, but at 24/96 is 3+ gig I believe.  It was set that way when I received it, and always liked it and left it.

Mine is set for running 4 mono channels at 24/96 and cuts off a little before one hour. I then delete the 2 channels in post if I'm only actually using 2 channels. It can, of course, be set to only record 2 of the 4 channels, but I like knowing it's always set in one particular way. YMMV.

I agree Stu.  I haven't changed that setting once in 2+ yrs.  If I had a 744 I'd do that same thing.  I hate having to remember to change stuff back, better to just set it and forget it imo.

95% of the time I test everything before I leave the house, but there have been a few times where I'm scratching my head 5 minutes before a show and remembered that I changed something at the last show. ;D

As a humble DR-680 user, there is no substitute for having your pre-game checklist down pat. There are a number of settings that won't save on the 680 between powering down, so it's good to know exactly what settings you should run through before every show.

You know you can switch between 4 mono and 2 poly quickly and easily via the front panel... with visibility of whether or not you have made any changes.

Press INPUT plus one of the four buttons to the left and right of the LCD display & mute channels 3/4 (or 1/2) and it will create a single stereo file.  The input LED's will be blue for the channels that are on and blank for the channels that are muted.  The press of two buttons saves from the additional file size, transfer and conversion.

Well, 4 channels at 24/96 is 30 mins. So 4 channels at 24/96 at 2 hours would be 4GB. Set your 744 for 2gb and it will start a seamless file after the 1hr mark :)
