get a 7pin to optical cable and you're good to go.
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

I think you're going to have to buy one on ebay or used from one of the forums. It's an actual sony product, I forget what the part number is but someone here will know it.

The part numbers are in the Archival Info forum.  Keep an eye out for these used, I don't think Sony makes 'em anymore.

the hosa converter + optical cable may actually be cheaper than a 7-pin>optical(or at least about the same price)

when i worked at am-dig we had the 7pinoptical cables in stock on occassion.  It's worth calling and seeing if they have one laying around or can possibly put you on a list in case one shows up...

I run SBM-1 > JB3, and untill yesterday i ran a convertor box.  i traded a 7 pin coax for a 7pin optical, and it works perfectly.  I also like the quick transfers on the JB3, it makes it a very convenient piece of gear.
then we tell the kids that its good versus evil
that country and god are more important than people
we say it so much that its almost believable
