Title: Custom cables In Canada? Ted G already asked to quote
Post by: seethreepo on March 02, 2024, 01:35:32 PM
Does anyone in Canada or who will ship to Canada make custom XLR's?
I already have sent Ted G an email
Is there anyone else open to making a pair of special low pro XLR cables ?
LMK.

I'm not sure if anyone makes them (I'm sure you could find a few companies), but if you know how to solder (or are willing to learn), you could pick up something like these to make yourself some:

Low Profile XLR connector:
https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/Switchcraft/AAA3MBLP?qs=qSfuJ%252Bfl%2Fd7BZD1TMhJE7w%3D%3D

0.205" Shielded Cable:
https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/tensility-international-corp/30-02974/21349544

Wouldn't be too hard to make - plus you'd probably save money and learn a cool skill :)

Thanks for the links, I’m just not interested in making them myself, I don’t see needing or wanting more pairs so to buy an iron, sodder, cable, XLR s would be overkill.

I'm firing up the cable making station next week to make a bunch of stuff.

Shoot me a pm with what you are looking for I may be able to help. I still have quite a lot of stock from when I made cables as a side gig.

I'm a little confused since you say in your OP that you want XLRs but later that XLR would be overkill.

I think they just mean buying all the gear (solder, iron, cables, XLR connectors) would be overkill for only making a single set of cables. An iron and solder are pretty cheap and handy to have though so I feel like it’s not overkill even if it’s just one project.

Personally, I’ve always seen projects as an excuse to buy tools.  What’s not to like?

chopped a pair of 15footers down to 9ft.
50ft xlr
20ft xlr
rca > xlr
1/4 > xlr
bnc > xlr

What cable stock did you use for the XLR pairs center and bottom-right? Looks like aircraft cable.

^Looks like the same mil spec silver coated copper wire that a lot of us cable makers have used over the years. A bunch of manufacturers make it. One of the intended applications is aircraft comms.

Someone here on TS told me a couple years ago that making cables is easy. I took the plunge and now I agree. Make your own.

Or ask Performance Audio. No affiliation, but they have done fantastic custom work for me and they are cheaper than anywhere else. Not sure how they do it. I am picky and they have skills.
