How many people are running this?  Trying to resist the urge to sell the V3 and move to the 722.  I really like the sound of the M148 > V3 > recorder, but the ability to run an all-in-one box that doesn't require external power is pretty enticing.  The JW Mod 460's > Aerco MP2 > 722 seems like a nice small package that will add some warmth similar to the M148 as well.

The JW Mod 460's need to be warmed up a bit IMO, which the M148 does a great job of IMO.  I've heard mixed reviews of the M148 > 722 & understand why from some of the shows I've heard.  But, those weren't with JW Mod 460's either.  Just putting feelers out.  Thanks.

Tony & Terrapinj are the only tapers that I know of running JW Mod 460 > 722.  I was hoping to out more individuals that might have tried the combo.

Seems to me the concensus overal is that running the V2 in front of the 722 is the way to go, but the difference is not that drastic just better.

I think your'e right on that. I like the V3 in front, most of the time. However in those cramped quarters situations, like the 3 shows I taped above, the JW460>722 does a fine job. Nothing wrong with sitting in a theater seat, with a super small gear bag and the stand strapped to the armrest. Lots of room to move around and still a real good recording. :)

i don't know if its so much the consensus as its just what has been used more frequently. Tony and I are the only ones running mod460s and a 722 (that we know of at least) and both happen to have Grace pres. granted is a lovely combo but I can't say that I like the mod460 > ?? > 722 with the V2 in the chain better than other pres (m148/mp-2/m248 etc) in the chain. Ian Stone has a snonsax now, and I would really like to run that in the chain and see how it sounds as well.

Yep.  The small footprint & ease of use is very enticing.  I'm especially tired of running a standalone recorder behind the V3.  Not really a big deal in the long run, but my Moe. recording in February was lost due to a bad optical cable.  What a PITA.

True that.  M148 > 722 behind the JW Mods could sound fantastic, as could the MP2.  Never know till it's tried I suppose.

Here's another: http://www.archive.org/details/pfl2006-07-11.akg.tonys.74651.sbeok.flac16.

Normally I would have used the V3 in front, since it's an outdoor show. The small package is really starting to grow on me.

i ran 480>722 once and liked it ALRIGHT but the grace>722 does a REALLY nice job of mixing up tightness and warmness IMO, the 148>722 IMO would sound too bloated because the 722 is a WARM piece of equipment IMO

i would say try the 722 w/ and w/ out the v3 in front and see which you like better, my gut says you'll keep the v3 around ;)

id also like to run 480>sax>722 and will borrow one someday to run thatw ay

I'm thinking I may run over to CascadeMedia sometime in the next week and see if I can demo theirs for a day or so.. I'm sure there is a difference sound wise, but how much of one that my ears will hear is the question.
