T.H.E. a new offering; CR5 condensor
« on: January 30, 2007, 07:39:56 AM »
surfing around the other day, I decided to check out T.H.E.'s site to see if Taylor had anything new up his sleeve.  Low and behold, he has a new set of less expensive mics.
msrp is only $365 per.  so I bet a pair of these might have a street price of around 5 bills, and based on Taylors designs and ear, i bet they smoke.

nobody records w/this brand.  they are still an unknown in the community.  When I had mine (cards and hypers), I enjoyed the hell out of them.  wonderful mics.  I'd like to get another pair, and will probably check out these newer models.  I'm bugging Taylor to see if I can get a review pair.  He moved to Argentina or somewhere in S.A, so hes not quite as available.

I don't know if the specific model Nick was referencing is listed but here is the tech specs on T.H.E. mics.

+t rightbackatcha  ;D

That page usually has frequency reponses on most mics manufactured.  Doesn't however on the T.H.E. mics

The Sound Room seems to be the only site with pricing on the new stuff. A pair of CR5 will run $600. If they sound like the K series mics, these should sound better than the Peluso CEMC6.

Looks like there is also a C series body with interchangeable caps. A pair of C series bodies with both card and omni caps runs $1200. That isn't really much of a price drop from a pair of K series bodies with card caps for $1350. I love the sound of the K series. I hope the CR5 might come close to the KA-04/KR-2C combo.

There are graphs of the two new mics in the October 2006 issue of Recording Magazine. There's a link to the article on the Sound Room's site, or just click here for a pdf.

Nick, I'd love to hear your opinion on how the new T.H.E. mics stand up to the Peluso, SP C4, or similarly-priced mics if you can get some units to review. +T

its in the works.
:)
fwiw, the k series are world class imo.  Peluso's are great and all, but they are not like THE in terms of craftsmanship and refinement.  I'm excited to get a pair, i'm sure I'll keep them.

Can this be used in the field (P48)? Still planning to review the P stereo mic vs the LSD2?

This microphone can run from it's included power supply or, if AC power is not available, it will run from phantom power with slightly reduced SPL handling.
