ISO Recs for a Canon zoon lens

I have a Rebel XTi, and I am looking into getting a zoom lens and am looking for input.  Specifically looking to take pics at hockey games, etc...

appreciate any input

70-200/2.8.   VR/IS is a plus in a lens of that length but for sports you probably need to shoot fast enough to stop action that it may not be a necessity.  Both Canon & Nikon's 70-200/2.8 are among their best zooms and are great lenses.
