New mini holophone..(surround microphone)
« on: October 09, 2006, 01:21:52 PM »
http://www.holophone.com/products_h4.html

The microphone has six independent microphone elements that are output through either a matrix surround encoded stereo analog output or six line-level analog outputs (L, R, C, LFE, LS, RS) available through three stereo mini-plug jacks.

word is around 2500..looks really portable.

They offered either DPA4060's or Sennheiser MKE 2-5 in the origional full size version, not sure what mics they use in the little one.  I gotta wonder how well the little one works with such a small baffle -the big one is pretty much head (HRTF) sized, the reasoning behind which was emphasised in their prior literature.

So what would a person use to record all of those channels for mixing to surround later?  Would you have to use a multi-track recorder or are there units set up to record 6 channel surround on the fly?  I know they have something going in broadcast tv of course but this is getting down into small production company price ranges.  I've been thinking about doing nature shows as my next project.  I know an outdoor writer and I'd like to have him host a half hour "Wild Pick Any State" type series.  Outdoor shows have been my goal since I got into video production.

Hey Teddy,
Are you adding one of these to the collection ? ......Just wondering how good it sounds.....it would be a nice little mic to use in venues with good acoustics.....

Peace,
jk

I don't recall calling anyone in this thread a chump or any other such thing.  Teddy was the only civil person in the thread you refer to.  But of course some people have nothing better to do than to follow me around looking for a flame war.  What a pathetic life you must lead.  I guess you get tired of inflatible girlfriends after a while.
