Title: VR Box help found!!! +thanks!
Post by: chrisdavis on June 10, 2008, 01:22:46 PM
ok, so.  rothbury's coming up and im trying to get a power supply situation taken care for a ua-5 > jb3 combo. (ive got about 6 dvd batterys, and about 6 jb3 batteries)

LowSpark sent me this vr box, built by Razorback.  Its was built for a ua-5/jb3 combo i think.  I beleive it was built a long while ago.  Im not sure Tony ever got it going.  Ive PM'ed Razorback, who has been totally patient and helpful; but he doesnt have gear to test it, so sending it back to him may not be the best option.

So, me and ba went to radio shack to try to build a cable from the vr box to the 9v dvd battery that i normally use for the ua-5.  We basically built a new cable in the fashion me and todd built the first ua-5 cable last summer.

We bought a power cable, a "F" tip (stereo plug), and a "B" tip power plug thats fits in the dvd battery.  it made the battery go dead at radio shack.  i brought i the battery home, plugged it into the wall charger, and it instantly regained power.  so, i switched the tips from (-) and (-), to (+) and (+).

That said, I have not successfully supplied power to the vr box, or the jb3 and ua5 beyond.  i am clueless about what to do; and im a bit scared because i dont want to destroy my jb3 or god forbid my ua5.

can anyone help me?  any advice at all?  im willing to ship the vr box and the cable i "made".  gotta get this figured out by rothbury....heres some pics ive taken.  not sure if theyll help at all... + thanks...Cd

Both the UA5 and NJB3 have good protection devices to shut down before any damage occurs. I for one always put a fuse in line between battery and vr box by using dc car cig connectors or a rat shack in line fuse box. The cable should be "+" w/ "+" on the battery end and only switched on the UA5 end. Get a volt meter and check the polarity of the cable and continuity. Just out to make sure did you plug the new battery cable in the output of battery and not not the input? Just checking and sorry if that is a real stupid ?.
Peace

I think w/ the two (Ua5 & NJB3) your looking at 1500 mah if I remember right. Divide the batteries mah by 1500 and that equals the hours.
Peace
