im looking to pick up a car power inverter to recharge my lappy/valence batts while at the Euphio campout this next weekend
should i buck up and buy one of the beefy ones, or just go with a cheapo from say wal-mart?
will there be a difference in charge time with a beefy one that is say 350watt and one that might be 150watt?
anyone have any insight?

It depends on the car. Ultimately, the power limit is set by the fused source in your car. If your 12V hook up will support the higher current, get the beefy one because you'll grow into it. The minimum you should get will depend on what you are trying to drive.
What is the peak power draw of your laptop charger? Get nothing smaller than that. If you supply at least the charger's peak draw, anything more will not charge your batteries faster. But it's nice to have reserve capacity.

I bought a 350watt at circuit city for 60 bucks and it worked great for me at HSMF. I usually keep it in my car so i can plug my laptop in and listen to shows.

i have a 300 or 350 watt, and i've charged my sla's on it on the way, and at bonnaroo. Worked fine. I was thinking about hitting the Euphio Campout, but i don't think i'll make it down. Have a good time man.

well, things changed at work, and it is definantly out of the plans now...
looks like 2 solid local shows to try out the new lappy this weekend
