I currently use the Kingston CF/32GB-S2 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134901) in mine. I've used the cheaper Transcend 32gb before, but not for a long haul like I have with the Kingston (going on 18 months now).

Not related to the 722, but to CF Cards...  Just thought I'd throw it out there...

Fortunately, the SD boxes seem to work well with inexpensive and slow CF cards.  I buy the cheapest CF cards I can find and I have never had any problems with any of them in either a 702, 722, or 788T.   Here's a link to something I wrote a couple of years ago:

http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=131976.msg1732910#msg1732910 (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=131976.msg1732910#msg1732910)

Since then I have used other inexpensive CF cards without a problem.

You figure, what are the odds of both the hdd and cf card failing in the same recording. Yeah, it would be nice not to have that happen, but it's comforting to know that the odds of one failing are slim, but both at the same time are really small.

Thanks to everyone.

I usually shop at B&H and the cheapest I could find was this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/666608-REG/Transcend_TS32GCF400_400x_CompactFlash_32GB_Memory.html/

They also have this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/715211-REG/Lexar_LCF32GCRBNA400_32GB_Professional_400x_CompactFlash.html.

And this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/738080-REG/Kingston_CF_32GB_U3_32GB_Ultimate_CompactFlash_600x.html.

Any other brands I should look at?

$75 is the max I'd pay for one. I think my Kingston was aroudn $60 when I got it. Newegg has the Transcends for something like $50.

Thanks. I looked at the Kingston you linked but it's out of stock and B&H doen't seem to have that flavor in a 32.

Well, Newegg has the slower Transcend 32G card for about 50 bucks:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208389 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208389)

But as I wrote above, it makes no difference since the slow cards work just fine even recording 8 channel at a time.

At this time, 32 gig is the value sweet spot for CF cards.

Yeah, I'd shop around though, someone's bound to have them or something else cheaper. notlance is right, unless you're blasting >96khz or using a 788 fully loaded, I don't think the faster cards offer a great benefit.

Make sure you get one with good transfer speeds. I like the faster cards for obvious reasons. Mine is 533x.

true, if you're going to pull it instead of using the firewire connection, that makes a world of difference.

I have found that memory card speed makes little difference in upload times.  My slowest card (rated at 133x) uploads at about 1.4 gig/min, and my fastest card (400x) uploads at about 1.9 gig/min.  That's not enough difference to pay a big premium for, IMHO.  However, the card reader can make a HUGE difference.  I have an old no-name USB reader that takes 4 or 5 times as long to upload.  (That reminds me, I ought to throw that old reader in the trash.)  This reader is fast and cheap:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134753 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134753)

If you have FireWire on your laptop, this reader is crazy fast but expensive:

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-Card-reader-FireWire/dp/B000L97K44/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1308276990&sr=1-1 (http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-Card-reader-FireWire/dp/B000L97K44/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1308276990&sr=1-1)

The cool thing about the SanDisk FireWire card reader is you can run it with a CF as an external drive on the 7xx boxes.  There may be other FireWire card readers that work just as well as the SanDisk, but I have never used them.

Does anyone have any recommendations as far as reliability and price for a few 32gb CF cards? I'm looking to grab a few for festival season.

I have found the 7xx boxes to be decidedly unfussy about CF cards and I have used the least expensive cards available with good results.  It appears there has been a general price reduction in 32 gig CF.  For a couple of years the least expensive 32 gig CF cards were about $60, but now one can be had for about 40 bucks.  Here is what Newegg has:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007962%20600006181%20600006235&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=100 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007962%20600006181%20600006235&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=100)

Of the cards listed, I’ve used them all with good results except for the TOPRAM; I’ve never even heard of TOPRAM until today.  But with my success using cheap CF cards in a 722, I’d be willing to try one.

There are 64 gig cards now on the market that I am interested in trying.  Transend has a 400x speed 64 gig card going for 140$ at B+H.    I have a transend 133x speed 32 gig card in my SD702 that has worked flawlessly.....
