hypers advice
« on: September 25, 2010, 02:19:47 PM »
borrowing some 41s tonight for the hold steady. i forgot to get the DINa bar. i have DIN, ORTF and wideORTF(25/110) bars. i'll be about 12 ft from the stage, suspended from the balcony, with the mics hanging about 8 ft above the crowd. thoughts on which config to run?
4. im so abrasive i make sandpaper nervous.

Out of the choices, I'd say DIN.
ORTF would probably be alright too, since you're pretty close.
IMO, the Wide ORTF would be too much spacing/angle though.
With hypers (or supercards, which the 41's are), I personally seem to like an AB spaced 17-20cm pointed at outside edges of stacks.

I agree, DIN or point at stacks.  I feel like the whole point of the hypers is to get more direct sound, so might as well do that. Plus the 41s pick up such a full signal range, they'll have plenty of bass with the tighter pattern.

I ran my MK41s DINa first set then NOS second set for this show http://www.archive.org/details/um2010-03-11.mk4_flac16 where I set up in the balcony.  Odd theater where the balcony extends to stage lip and the stacks are at eye level (and ~ 120 degrees apart.  Similar to the set up you are describing).  Adam D. clamped to me and ran MK4 DIN.  Different caps, different preamp but a comparison of sorts.
