for the life of me I don't understand why sometimes my video playback smooth and other times its dropping frames
the same exact video, 16gb ram, no other programs open
Literally I can be editing for hrs fine, come back later in the day and it is dropping frames every few seconds
here is what I have which are default, see image
I am 99% sure when I make a new multi cam clip that its transcodes/renders that automatically
My workflow is…
new event
import
highlight files I want to use in multi cam
right click, new multi cam clip
(automatic w/audio synch)
place multicam clip into new project
switch angles using mutlicam viewer
i read some stuff about using optimized and/or proxy files but I can't find anything solid on what it is/does so I am not sure it is worth it especially since I don't know how it will effect HD space and the whole editing process

Selecting 'optimized' files for import creates temporary Pro Res 422 files for editing. So yes, it uses more HD/RAM etc.

But is there any real value to using optimized or proxy if you want to export the best quality file?
Proxy for example uses half size files which would make editing easier because there is less strain on the computer. I am just note sure if I can then export good quality

Pro Res is better for editing, as you wouldn't want to edit a mp3 and export a wav file.

The point of proxy editing is to reduce the strain and improve performance during the edit then apply the edit to the original at render time.
