Kangol hats
« on: February 27, 2004, 02:10:47 AM »
So I've got a show tomorrow that I want to stealth, and I'd like to get one of them fancy Kangol hats to put my mics in. ;)  However, I obviously can't order one online for the show tomorrow...are there any brick and mortars that sell them?

If not I'll probably just order one and figure out something else for tomorrow night.

john, no idea what city you're in, but i've heard that NYC has a kangol retail store now!  even if that sounds-too-good-to-be-true story is false, there's still Lids & a place that sells nothing but hats on 6th and west 4th street.

hope this helps, but i'm doubting strongly that it will....

Haha.  Sorry, I'm in NoVA (Fairfax to be exact).

And they aren't in my sig, but I have a pair of at933s and a modAD-20.

Does anyone know if Lidz sells the Kangol ventairs?  I've been to one in VA Beach and I don't remember them being there...

I've seen some in department stores - not the ventairs but the regular felty ones. Maybe try Macy's or something like that?

you can just go and get a mesh ballcap, turn it backwards, and tape the mics inside the top of it.  Either one of the old trucker hats would work, or even the new Nike types that are made of that mesh "shorts type" material

So, with a 7 3/4 > 8 hat size, will the large work?

Moke, I used this sizing chart at Mike The Hatter.  FWIW, my noggin measures about 23-1/4", which translates to the upper limit of a 7-3/8 or Large hat size.

Initially I got the large, and it fit snugly and well, but needed to go up a size to the XL for a looser fit so the mic caps didn't bulge quite so much in the front brim.  It's noticably too large for my noggin, but works better with the mics inside (and I don't wear it w/o the mics, so I don't care if it's a bit big).

I actually ordered th XXL, I have a 7 5/8 head, and the XXL gave me plenty of room to be comfortable without the mics sticking out looking like I had horns growing out of my head...

How are you guys wearing these, forwards or backwards?  I am about to order one.

Forwards looks like a great place to mount the mikes, but how do you cover up the wires coming out of the back of your nick (if you have short hair)?

Backwards looks good for hiding wires

I am already going to look goffy in this kangol hat, add a fake ponytail to that and security is going to throw me out for looking retarded.

I think I might try a large bandaid, like that black dude in pulp fiction had, but bigger.

You may be very self-conscious about your appearance, but security wont even give it a second thought.  If you're confident when going in you'll get in. ;)

Make the ultimate sacrifice, grasshoppa.  Where the bright robe.

Confucius say:
When fasting in preparation for sacrifice you must wear the Bright Robe, and it must be of linen. You must change your food and also the place where you commonly sit. You  do not object to your rice being thoroughly cleaned, nor to your meat being finely minced.
