For starters, answers to the following questions may help:

Small or large diaphragm mics?  Mics transported in a stock case, no case, or 3rd party case like a Pelican (and if a case, how big is the case)?  What kind of shockmounts?  Shockmounts transported in or out of the bag?  Windscreens included (and if so, what size)?  Mic stand attached to the bag or carried separately?  What size/type of batteries?  How much miscellaneous gear?

good questions from Brian. If you have small cap mics & a a small recorder that bag is more than you need. If you have full bodied, a pre am, outboard nbatteries, shock mounts etc.... that bag is perfect for you

you could fit all that in the Tamrac except the stand & if its a Bogen you can fit that under the top flap

I liked the SoniCase 4-shelfer with my R-4.  Carried a boatload of stuff.  Pics here.  You could probably get by with a 3-shelfer.

Forgot to add:  the SoniCase has a sleeve in the back into which one may slide a small stand, like the Bogen 3373 I use.

OK will post this one more time.. There are 2 active threads about this right now maybe should combine...

PETROL Nuff said!

I am done with wiring photo bags for recording applications... There are great recording bags made for what we do. They have movable dividers, all Velcro capable inside.... All walls have ducts for running wires from one compartment to the next... There are extended drawstring access ports tor running mic cables out and into the bag.. there are battery compartments and snap on pouches for transmitters.. I use them for batteries... there are cable ties built on the bag for holding long mic cables that are wired into the bag.. There is a clear top yes clear so when you are outside in the elements you can see the meters though the cleat top! Or when th ebag is on the floor and the drunk trips and the beer flys!... The whole bag zips apart for easy access.. Look at the picture for the pegz 1... They all do that!  The choice is simple... 3 sizes for how ever you carry your gear... Not for stealth use! LOL

Here is the petrol PEGZ-1

I love these bags. They are rugged as hell and are made for what we do....

The bummer is, I don't think any of those Petrol models are deep enough to house an R-4.

Look at the pegz 3 it is deeper.. And wider

Might not be enough..

Look at this: Ports-brace AR-R4 you can also add a pouch on to this for other gear..

I've been looking at that porta-brace for my R-4 for a while now.  The only problem is that my 'go to' mic is an LSD2 which just ain't gonna fit in that bag.  Soniccase seems to be my only solution if I want to move out of my current camera bag.  But what I've got (while it may not be pretty) works well enough, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

dave...you need some right angle cables coming out of that R4. that cable strain is painful to look at :o. but most importantly, nice toes :wink2:
