Extra Long Flex Arm? Or Flex Arm x 2?
« on: February 29, 2008, 10:44:49 PM »
i searched the net and could only find the standard HD flex arm which is 21.1" long. i have a need for a flex arm perhaps twice that long. does anybody know of one that would work with the super clamp like the HD flex arm does. something tells me i should be able to link one with another but i can't seem to wrap my head around that idea right now. here is a description of the flex arm i have...

This Bogen / Manfrotto Heavy Duty Flex Arm is 18mm in diameter, wider than the standard Flex Arm. Otherwise, it shares the identical feature set: 21.1" (55 cm) in length with a 5/8" hex stud to affix to the Super Clamp 035 and has a 3/8" female thread and 1/4" 20 male end.

thanks for any help!

As the description states, the HD Flex Arm has a 3/8"-female thread in its base (same end as the 5/8" hex stud which slots into the SuperClamp) and the end has a 1/4" male tip.  So simply put a 1/4" > 3/8" thread adapter on the tip, and this tip will then screw right into the base of the other HDFA.

Alernatively, if you don't need the snakiness of the HDFA, you could try the Bogen extension pole.  I've not used one, but from the looks of the pic and specs, I think you would just need to use the standard SuperClamp stud + whatever thread adapters you need to get a 5/8" tip on the stud, then screw the pole right on top.

is this the right one?

Looks correct to me.  HDFA 1/4"-male tip > 1/4"-female | 3/8"-male adapter > 3/8"-male thread in the base of the other HDFA.
