ok, so i know nickspicks was/is writing a review, but i thought id give my input after running them for a few weeks and about 6-7 shows
so here goes:
after running audio magic xstreams for 6 solid years, i have something decent to compare them too
first off, the bass is soo good and punchy, it has a sound of its own thru the 480's and the v3, sounds really different from the xstreams, the xstreams were a bit 'thinner' and maybe a bit more crisp in the high end, but these have GREAT highs/mids/lows IMO, the bass is tight and more present in the mix than im used to w/ the xstremas also
a great soundstage too, really wide and open doing hypers/DIN, great imaging and an overall 'smooth blanket' that i really like so far, and these prolly still only have 80 hrs on them, cant wait till they get really burnind in :)
the am xstreams are a great product, dont get me wrong, but since the raw cable of the bumblebee's looks almost identical to audio magic's hyperconductors, i bet theyre sound is similar to, and theyre a step above the xstreams :)
so fwiw, i highly recomend these cables, and they were built w/ the utmost quality products and very reliable looking solder joints :) 8)
so for anyone who wants to spend some $$ on some nice silver clad mic cables and wants them custom done, i would say marc is your man!
thanks again marc,
bean

heres a non technical review on the cables.
GREAT!

the bass response is the most improved thing IMO, but the imaging/soundstage isnt too shabby either ;D 8)
for people running 'regular' cables, if ya have a decent rig, you HAVE TO switch to something better, its amazing what you'll hear that you never heard before, like simple strikes of guitar strings even at loud rock shows :)
-
Just got a pair of these as interconnects and they are as good as everyone has said! The easily rivial my $150/pair blue truths! The thing I like most about these cables is that they are each hand made with an obvious attention to detail!

PM sent
do eeet tim, you will not be dissappointed, trust me :)
-
I sent him a PM, it will really depend on price... unfortunatley I need a lot of speaker cable as my amp is not between my speakers but rather is set off to one side... I need at least 10'.
good speaker cable at that length is expensive...

be on the lookout for the Bumblebee power cords with heavy guage silver clad cables, I will be the first one trying it out at home, look very forward to it, will post pics as the cord becomes available, I believe marc has a few more issues to work out
-
I have these on my list to buy, of course I am taking handouts as well :P
Anywho.
Has anyone ran Zoalla's and now use these? Can you give any kind of comparison
if so? I imagine these are better sounding, yet still like to hear others views.
Might have something to look for during my A/B when it happens.

literally a 7" diameter

i just got mine in the mail yesterday. these are the coolest cables evah! the tech-flex outer shell is the tops ;D
-
Are y'all running your cables directly from your mics into your pre/A/Ds? I'm really tempted to get a pair, but I have a PS-2 > line transformers > y-adapter between my mics and deck. Would all that copper/nickel dull the cables' sound improvements?

neutral/clean microphones > silver xlrs > 24 bit for acoustic music = bliss

you can easily run MIC > MiAGi-II > ps2 > ......
are you running Hosa MIT-176 xformers? if so, i can easily get rid of those 1/4" pigtails > Y-adaptor for ya to clean up the signal chain.

I'm still breaking in my interconnects...got em going to the TV at the moment just to get them broken in before I put them through some critical listening. I'll post a review in a week or two. :)
-
i have mine burned in. they are just waiting to be used. I have a session this week so they will definitely get some use then. Drum overheads, acoustic guitars, vocals, etc.
Not sure when I'm taping a show again. I have yet to "tape" a show all year :-\
-
Check the kickdown section. I have a comparison of these cables against canare starquad homebrews. Not the best comparison but it should do the job until someone does a better one. LMK.

has anyone noticed any sensitivity to these cables?
Like they get tapped you can hear a crack/pop in the recording?
I found several pops through a show I pulled down on Friday night.
1 was in the right channel only, 1 was in both channels. I am not really
blaming any one componenet as of yet. I have a show to listen to from Saturday night
and I want to see how it compares. First time I get clicks in my pulls and it was the first time
running the cables. It could of been from the stand being bumped or something else
too. I need to ask swampy if he picked up anything, since he was clamped. to my stand.
I know if I would lay a good thwack down on my zoallas I could hear it.
I have to at least investigate a little as to why I hear a pop , these cables are pretty dam sweet though.
Or maybe I need to look at this way, these cables open the spectrum up so much, maybe I just am now hearing a pop which has been there all along?

hmm... pls. keep us updated with this.
i've ran the cables few times and had no such experience. does it sound like someone tapping the cable and your mic is picking up the sharp vibration or does it sound like an electronic "pop"?

i taped my cables to theground l;ast week and folks were stepping all overthem, has tobe something else, was your gain CRANKED ???
-
Hoping to get a set of these to go from the Franken Naks. Marc, you are a busy busy man! ;D
-
i taped my cables to theground l;ast week and folks were stepping all overthem, has tobe something else, was your gain CRANKED ???
not at all, I think it might have been at 1 o clock, for sure nothing higher then that.
The lowest would of been 12 o clock setting.
I still have to listen over my Sat. night pull to see if it is repeatable.
I will keep this updated, I was thinking optical cable, seems like those are the
most suspectible culprit, yet I think if it was the cable , it would be everywhere in the recording
and not just in a few spots.
I wrote down the time on the one click, I have to check the others again.
It is more of a pop then a vibration. I will try and get some more critical listening time in.
-
In my experience, cable handling noise does not sound like popping. I have heard handling noise on my mics previously, and it sounded much like wind noise, in that it was a deep bass sound. In my opinion, popping noise would be something other than mic (or cable) handling noise. I would check the other possible sources first.
.02 cents

ive had weird grounding problems like that LONG ago till i tightened them :(

but there is for sure in my mind a need to secure the cables to the stand so that no mechanical noise is moved on to the mics. This could get tricky outdoors ::) This is hard to explaine, sorry.
We should all (already) secure our mic cables to ensure cable movement doesn't translate into mic movement and therefore noise. But perhaps I'm not understanding...?
-
Couple things I noticed last night fooling with the BBees. This could be true of any cable under these situations, but I think the BBees construction may be signifigant in the following setup:
1 Low volume sound source close to the mics
2 pre's gain set way high (to 11 ;) )
3 cables loosly coiled on the floor
The other thing I noticed right away is the stiffness of the cable's teflon sheath keeps them wanting to coil up if left on their own. It's not that they are spring like as much as they will simply tend towards forming loops. I can see if care is not taken to uncoil them during set up then you could find and "ass hole" or kink develop. I'd rather not test to see if the cable will sustain a sharp bend and not finding such a kink in the loop is a step in that direction. This could stand some comment from a manufacture's rep.
All for now, I may edit/add later.
all cables will transfer mechanical vibrations to the mics, no matter what. i agree with your testing results. if you're recording dead air and have the gain cranked at max, you're going to hear EVERYTHING through headphones. however, we'll never be faced with such environment since most of our taping is loud PA level sound sources.
as for the stiffness of the cables due to the teflon, it's quite flexible for the material used. i tend to roll up my 15' into a 9" roll for my bag. when i unpack at a show, i usually unroll it and straighten it out where needed. my experience is that they do not have a "spring" or a "coil" effect.
regards to sharp kinks... they will support a full 180 degrees bend. (i just bent mine and bent it back). i wouldn't recommend it day after day, but if the situation calls for it, then i think it passes that test.
marc
-
I have been coiling them a little tighter than 9"... say 6" or so. Much smaller and the whole works starts looking like a ball of twine ;D
if you can coil them down to 4" or so, you got yourself a neon yellow Slinky!! hahaha
marc
-
So you're saying that I CAN stuff the whole 15' into a Crown Roayl bag? ;D
you should be able to....I take my AM hypers which appear to be made from the same stock that Marc uses and carry them in a crown royal bag...
-
another satisfied customer ;D can't wait to hear how these sound at the upcoming galactic shows.

i guess i should burn them in, huh...how do i do that? just turn shit on and leave it running forever?
-
i guess i should burn them in, huh...how do i do that? just turn shit on and leave it running forever?
yep.. hook up microphone, turn up the gain, and leave it on. if it's a phantom powered, condenser, turn phantom on ;)
edit: 30 hours for burn in seems to be a good standard for length. some go shorter. others go longer. i'd, personally, burn them in for at least 30 hours though.
-
I was about to ask that same question. Wanderin if some sort of standard was present for burn in.
Will turn mine on this weekend when I roll to holland. Thanks man,.+T

Wanted to throw a HUGE shout out to 'leegeddy' for delivering some DAMN FINE cables my way. He had everything turned around super quick and was easier to deal with than alot of the vendors I have dealt with over the years. On short notice he made me a pair of 15' right-angle BumbleBee, MiAgi-II or whatever he has decided to name them, a RA power plug for my V3 and a RA AES > RCA. These cables look great. I took some pics if anyone wants I can post them. Marc is a great example of someone doing the community right!
With less than 24 hours to burn in we'll see how they sound for the Black Crowes tomorrow night. I'll report back Friday on the cable performance.
OFOTD.

apparently you haven't seen the 6 threads devoted to his work in other parts of the board ;)

I have run them a couple of times so far. Very happy! Nice deep bass for silver cables. They are also very thin, which they can be rolled up and placed in a Crown Royal bag. Takes up little space in my bag. A great deal on a set of great sounding cables. Thanks Marc!! And thanks Bean for the nudge! ;D
-
I had my first outing with the "bumblebee" cables last night(antibalas). WOW!!! These cables rock, i could tell a difference listening to my jb3 in my car and my car sucks for music. Everything on the stage is super clean, bass is nice and deep. I can't wait to get these broken in. For anyone that is thinking about upgrading get these cables. Oh yeah this was with the TL's, i thought they sounded good before but now i'm blown away.
Thanks again Marc +T

im not really sure where to post these questions, here, or in the mic forum, but i guess ill just do it here ??? my leegeddy cables just showed up today :) and they seem to be pretty sweet, but i have a couple of questions about breakin them in:
when burning the cables in, should i just let them run on phantom power every chance i get? i let them run for about 8 hours today, but i wasnt sending much of a signal through them, does it matter how much gain i send through them or is it simply running power through them that makes the difference?
my next question is really a mic question, will my mics be ok running them for really long periods of time? i never run them for more than a typical show length, will running them for extensive periods of time cause them to get worn out at all?
also, i have a show tomorrow, how do these cables sound when theyre not at all burned in? im guessing they will still smoke my old cables (plain jane mogami cables), right? i read something that its more of a process of getting used to a new sound than anything, does anyone agree with this?
sorry if these questions are not to clear or have been answered elsewhere, thanks in advance,
aaron

No as long as you are sending power across the cables.
my next question is really a mic question, will my mics be ok running them for really long periods of time? i never run them for more than a typical show length, will running them for extensive periods of time cause them to get worn out at all?
yes/no

The cables sound great new or burned in. I did a test when I first got my Bumblebee's. Taped the same passage of a DAT on my home system. Then put about 10 hours on them. Taped the same sound again and repeated this every 10 hours until I had put 51 hours on the cables. I could tell some difference between the 0 hour and 51 hour but the difference was subtle. Not some big in your face difference. I was able to tell a bigger difference when I threw my old cables on.

Well they were pretty clear to me. As I am sure someone else will chime in "Trust your ears" See if you can tell a difference! +t

im not really sure where to post these questions, here, or in the mic forum, but i guess ill just do it here ??? my leegeddy cables just showed up today :) and they seem to be pretty sweet, but i have a couple of questions about breakin them in:
when burning the cables in, should i just let them run on phantom power every chance i get? i let them run for about 8 hours today, but i wasnt sending much of a signal through them, does it matter how much gain i send through them or is it simply running power through them that makes the difference?
No as long as you are sending power across the cables.
my next question is really a mic question, will my mics be ok running them for really long periods of time? i never run them for more than a typical show length, will running them for extensive periods of time cause them to get worn out at all?
yes/no
also, i have a show tomorrow, how do these cables sound when theyre not at all burned in? im guessing they will still smoke my old cables (plain jane mogami cables), right? i read something that its more of a process of getting used to a new sound than anything, does anyone agree with this?
The cables sound great new or burned in. I did a test when I first got my Bumblebee's. Taped the same passage of a DAT on my home system. Then put about 10 hours on them. Taped the same sound again and repeated this every 10 hours until I had put 51 hours on the cables. I could tell some difference between the 0 hour and 51 hour but the difference was subtle. Not some big in your face difference. I was able to tell a bigger difference when I threw my old cables on.

The reason one wears a wedding ring on the third finger is that there is supposed to be a vein which goes directly from that finger to the heart—i.e., the seat of love. Also, not everyone wears that wedding ring on the third finger of the LEFT hand. In some traditions, such as the Jewish one, it is worn on the right hand. Also, nuns ("brides of Christ") wear a wedding ring, again on the right hand.
Thats a fact!

I'm starting to think Cliff and Sammy are the same person here.... hmmmm. ;) ???

these cables are not only a great value but they are like buying from your brother... It feels good to know you're helping a friend and at the same time not being the guy who's paying the premium to off set some advertising budget or hype.
HTH
well put!

Ok so I just got my BB silvers today. I will be running them a whole lot over the weekend at All Good Festival and I will tell everyone what I think. So far I am just amazingly impressed by the way they look alone that I am already happy with my purchase but that is just being ridiculous and I will put them to the test for about 20 sets this weekend. WHEW!!!!! ;D

my job has taken much of my time lately. i've been traveling more than ever since i now have a larger territory to cover.
so, i need to fulfill existing orders and promises, and have stopped taking any further cable orders. i simply don't have the time right now with all my business travels and my focus on my career.
i'll be back once i get caught up.
:'( I PMd him a while back hoping to get some cables made. Bummer I guess I'll try and make some myself. His cables rock!

guys;
i'm still making custom cables and vr jboxes, but need to catch up on several orders right now and not taking further orders. i have been out of town on business for several days since the july 4th holiday.
once things slow down a bit, i'll be back.

I have found the true cause of Marc slowing down production of his cables and such. He has added a few new products to the Bumble Product line. That is keeping him busy.

dolphin-free cables!

I just received a pair of 20' Bumblebees. They seem pretty stiff. Should I be more concerned about not making sharp bends in this cable, more so than I am with other cables. Is it the techflex making them stiff or the actual wires? Just wondering.
Thanks Marc :D Love them.

Thanks Marc :D Love them.
the stiffness is a combination of the teflon jacket on the cable and the techflex. however, i've bent them 180 degrees and bent them back w/o any issues.

FWIW, id not bend cables extremely, bad things can happen that way
keep them as straight as possible or coiled up as nicely as possible so bad things dont happen
when cables bend THAT much, i get freaked out personally :)

I am stoked - got a 10' pair of speaker cables and a pair of 15' mic cables coming soon ;D
