I'm fairly confident that I've learned the white man's stealth dance pretty well. I still get my groove on (to the beat, btw) and I'm having a blast. You'll see my head move, but not in a way that shifts the image too much. It's just not all out hippy twirling, head banging stuff.

In stealthing, the tape comes first, otherwise why stealth? You could try and set it up under a coat or something off to the side by a PA or something.

Move your arms, your body, whatever. Just don't move your head.
You have to decide which you want more - going nuts or stealthing. If you try to do both, you'll be shit out of luck.

Thanks to everyone for all this great stealthing help. I decided to put the mics on my hat.  I was practicing recording by blaring my home theatre system and noticed clearing your throat or a small cough is noticeable on the tape.  (better be careful).  Has anyone ever accidently starting singing along or have an accidental burp(after chugging some beers) and have it show up on the tape?  And what to do if some hot chick comes and starts talking about the show?  Is it worth sacricing the tape?

No singing.
Burps on purpose.
Forget the chick; it's all about the tape!

I want to say thanks to all on these replies, between this thread and the "soundboard recordings"  thread I've learned more in a half hour of reading then the last few weeks trying to find the elusive stealth answers. One more question maybe someone can answer, where are omnis better than card's and vice versa. thanks
Matt

youd want to use the omnis either outside or in a GREAT soundingvenue, but outside....cards are WAY more versatile, thats allive used in 4 yrs of recording w/ my equipment.... 8)

You have to save the burps and coughs for the louder passages. If you do it when the music is loud, you may not hear it on the tape.

I don't normally drink beer when I'm stealthing. The danger comes with the desire to piss that beer can bring.

If I am going to be stealthing a show in the evening, I try to drink a lot of coffee during the day, and then stop drinking altogether a few hours before the show.  By showtime I have pissed all the coffe out of me and I am relatively dehydrated, so even if I drink some during the show I will not likely have the need to piss for a few hours.  Its all about the advance preparation, like scouting and coaching a football game...

I can honestly say I have never put that much though into my stealth-day activities ;D
