i have been really happy with my nova 4aw.  used to run ua-5>jb3 in there plus a pelican 1060, and now have a 722 & 1060 with plenty of room.

**edit to add** the only thing i wish i had was a clear cover over the gear - that said, i often run with the top open due to the heat in florida.

in regards to the awesome zippered compartments of the nova - yes they have a few of them - but i have found that the best way to handle stuff like that is just jedi mind tricks.  i had my backup rig & bag at hampton and was able to bring in a full 375 bottle of crown in each night.  its just all how you pack it up and present the contents. (although i didnt even get a pat down on saturday night)

Yes the sonic cases are pricey but I love mine.  It was made by tapers for tapers...Don't get me wrong the portabrace and petrol bags are great.  I don't have one....but they are pricey too... The Nova is a consistent winner too....

I have the three shelf sonic case...I wish I would have gotten the four shelf.  But regardless it is perfect.....For your set up I would recommend the four self..I would also consider getting the accessories pouch. You can find a four shelf used every once and a while....for about half of what the new price is...

I love my Kata, it is small and easy to work out of. Taped in a hard rain and everything in the bag was dry; me not so much. It was pricey but imho worth it.

sonicase...it covers, zips, flaps, presses record and will buy you a beer. You are on your own with the ladies though...

The Portabrace AO-number series is what you want from Portabrace, not the AO-B series.

Was there a particular reason behind this comment? I saw they are almost $60 (MSRP) cheaper.

Yes, there was.

The Portabrace pics aren't the greatest but from what I can see the AO-B series has no vinyl window and open sides that offer no protection from the elements without a seperate rain slicker. Purchase one and the savings are gone. Just get the AO-1/1.5/2 etc to begin with and you'll have a a clear vinyl window and enclosed sides to start with without having to order them additionally.

Ah, gotcha. I appreciate the response.

Hmmm, so it arrived today, and I think somebody fucked up, because the top flap basically offers no protection whatsoever.

I think they sent me the PVCM rainflap instead of the top. Damn it.

Doesn't look like bkirby's either.

And the Pro Sound can't do anything at all next week because of something called NAB, so the week after is the best case scenario. Argh.

the rain flap is money b/c it actually extends past the wall which means that rain will be diverted off the sides. plus the main benefit is if you run gear from side to side you can see everything without having to open up the top flap. I think that even the other models are open on the sides also. if it seems like it is going to be very dusty, you can put a small piece of foam on each end to keep the dust out. it is built like a tank in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be fine once I get the actual top portion, I was just freaking out thinking the rain flap *was* the top, because it doesn't really cover anything. The rest of the bag is sick, wanted to run it tonight but just can't justify taking it out without a top.

I've got the same type of all vinyl cover on mine. It's basically the same thing only that it's all vinyl instead of vinyl/fabric. Serves the same purpose. I'd put all your stuff into it and then see how it looks. Also, pull your handles out so that they are outside of the vinyl.
