Looking for some input and feedback of my recordings
« on: August 25, 2012, 09:49:36 AM »
Hello,
Here´s a couple of samplesongs from various concerts I´ve taped and that I´m quite happy with, please let me know what you think? suggestions and feedback etc...I´ve provided some perhaps good info about venue, outdoors/indoors, position etc...thanks  :)

Live rig that I´m using most of the time:
Soundprofessionals Audio Technica AT 943 (SP-CMC-8) External Stereo Microphones > Soundprofessionals Batterybox > Olympus Ls-10 Linear Recorder > 4 GB > 24 Bit / 48 Khz > 24 Bit / 96 Khz

1st sample

Band: "The Spotnicks"
Song: "Amapola"
Recorded in a big outdoor theatre with wooden permanent roof, but open on the sides. Location 6-7m from left PA:s

2nd sample
Band: "Jimmy Cliff with band"
Song: "Many Rivers Too Cross"
Recorded outdoors in a big amusement park. 7-8m from right PA:stacks

3rd sample
Band: "Kebnekajse"
Song: "Vallat"
Recorded outdoors in a big amusement park on their small theatre stage with permanent roof, but open on the sides. 5m from right PA:stacks.

4th sample
Band: "Ali Campbell with band (Ex- "UB 40")
Song: "Medley-megamix of 5 songs from the concert"
Recorded outdoors in a big amusement park. 9-10m from right PA:stacks
http://soundcloud.com/u2_fly_2/ub40-samples/s-1dhsg

5th sample
Band: "Tant Strul"
Song: "Hjortjagaren"
Recorded outdoors in a big amusement park on their small theatre stage with permanent roof, but open on the sides. 6-7m from right PA:stacks. Was a little bit late for this concert, so I just went with settings from the last, so no checking of levels etc. Crowded and slighlty phasing I think sometimes(?)

6th sample
Band: "Sleep"
Song: "Sample of 1 song"
Recorded indoors in a medium big rockvenue with perhaps 3-4m from floors to the top, compact venue. 5-6m from left PA:stacks

http://soundcloud.com/u2_fly_2/03-185/s-7erJh

7th sample
Band: "Russian Circles"
Songs: "Mladek and parts of Geneva"
Recorded indoors in a half-packed rockvenue, 0.5-1m from the stage right side...instrumental band no vocals, so I picked up alot from the on-stage monitors and guitar amps, drums, got a quite "direct sounding recording", crowd behind me no crowdnoise at all...great ;-)

Listened to some of the above.

Sound is pretty much what I'd expect with your setup, and the location.

Even the slight wind rumble on the JC sample is to be expected - it's difficult to avoid this outside..

Your setup is three wire or 4.7k modded?
UK based taper: MK4>Nbox Platinum>PCM-M10

good, I'd probably equalize them all when listening, but at a different setting. Like the Sleep to my ears needs more midrange, but that's my ears. All in all real nice, you should upload these someplace as flac's to hear the whole thing.

great work, IMO.

The stack recording of Jimmy Cliff sounds nice. You really can't go wrong getting a good mono recording from the stacks, but I think what you hear is a little too bassy and trebly. The sweet spot is a little more difficult but I think the payoff is worth it. I recorded him last month from the sweet spot with AT853s and it isn't as crystal clear and punchy as yours but I made up for it in a great stereo image and a balanced EQ.
Theologically speaking, the two parties have divided the Seven Deadly Sins as follows: Republicans oppose lust, sloth and envy; Democrats scorn gluttony, greed, wrath and pride. Little progress is reported. -Gene Lyons
