none.

outside noise is always too loud.  I just have faith that the recording will sound good as long as I am not peaking.  I have had a couple times when I wished I had checked it, cause the battery in my battery box was dying... lost an Iggy and the Stooges recording cause of it.

Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

second the none...quite honestly, you have to crank it to the point of causing hear loss to be able to hear it unless you invest in one of the higher end etymotics

Yeah, I used to take headphones to listen to my recordings as I went.  But I found I couldn't hear the 'phones over the PA and I soon started trusting my stuff.

Now, if I bring them, its so I can listen to the recordings during setbreaks.  But most often than not, I just trust my meters...

I don't use my headphones much at shows, though I break 'em out at festivals or multi-set shows sometimes to quickly listen between acts and see if I want to change my mic config / pattern.  Are you mixing more than 2 channels?  If not, I don't think there's much need.  At any rate, I like the Etymotic ER-6s in-ear 'phones.

I love my ety er-6's. Can hear over the pa without cranking them. Sound sweet.

Also have to love a company that stands behind their stuff. I ripped the coating on mine and they sent me two replacements free.

The idea is to isolate the headphone sound from the pa sound, not try to match volume with the pa. You'd kill your ears.

I never used any because in most situations monitoring is futile... though I often wished I had even a cheap pair in my bag to diagnose trouble.

I use some Shure e3cs and love them, some of the shows when I forget ear plugs I use them full time.
Also in shitty sounding venues the recording sounds better so I just listen to the show that way

Etymotic ER-4S. It's the only way to listen at venues. Headphones simply don't kill enough outside noise. You can get any of the Etymotic or even Shure earphones and actually hear what you're recording. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Exactly.  I use the cheapass pair that came with my JB3 to do a quick listen and make sure there aren't any bad connections, that the signal sounds clean.  Has saved my ass more than once. . .

Does anyone have experience with noise cancelling headphones?

They are battery powered and somehow kill outside noise mostly used for airline/train travelers, I always wondered if they would be useful at a show.
