DVD Recorders that play DVD Audio: Are there any available?
« on: March 25, 2006, 10:39:36 PM »
Are there any DVD recorders that read DVD Audio discs?  Seems I am having a harder time that I expected.

I am looking for the DVD component, not a computer drive.

Any suggestions, models or links are appreciated...

Aren't those all listed only DVD players?  I also want something that I can record off the TV or VCR to DVD and also play DVD-A,etc?

Edit: Sorry, just saw the other post.  Yes, I am looking for a DVD Recorder, not just a player unit, that plays DVD-A.

Go to Panasonic.com > click the orange Shop At Panasonic on the right, select DVD & VCR's in the top left > DVD Recorders/Players.  They have 3 different models from $199>$299>$399, I couldn't tell you the difference, I don't own one.

If you look in the "technical specs" tab for the DVD recorders:

Multi-Format Playback (Playable Disc Type)  DVD: DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW
CD: CD (CDDA), Video CD, CD-R/RW (including MP3 and JPEG files)

There might be others, just not that I know of off the top of my head.
Maybe a couple of small scratches, but thats because these mics are chick magnets.
Girls always up on Andy tryin to grab these mics, the scratches are from their wedding rings.

+T for the response and the link.  I haven't had much luck with Circuit (Breaker) City or Best Lie.  Thanks again.

Panasonic.com is very confused about their recorders.  The web site listed DVD-Audio for their recorders as a playback supported format. But if you download the manuals for the recorders, the manuals state the recorders CANNOT playback DVD-Audio.

Not sure if such a device exists.

Any other leads or information is appreciated.

Discs that cannot be played:
• 2.6 and 5.2 GB DVD-RAM, 12 cm (5″)
• 3.95 and 4.7 GB DVD-R for Authoring
•DVD-R recorded in DVD Video Recording format
•DVD-R (DVD-Video format), DVD-RW (DVD-Video format), +R
recorded on another unit and not finalized (Ô page 36).
•PAL discs
•DVD-Video with a region number other than “1” or “ALL”
DVD-Audio
• Blu-ray
•DVD-ROM, DVD-R DL, +R DL, +R (8 cm), CD-ROM, CDV, CD-G,
Photo CD, CVD, SVCD, SACD, MV-Disc, PD, DivX Video Disc, etc.

I searched a couple forums and came up with nothing, I'm curious myself.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. If you haven't found anything yet, try a search att pricerunner.com.
It seems that there are a few JVC models that can do this (but verify with the manual to be sure!)
JVC DR-MH30 and -50 comes up, and they even have HDD recording (as well as a bunch mislabeled Panasonics...)
Check this link:
http://www.pricerunner.com/sound-and-vision/vision/dvd-players/browse?sort=5&saved_products=0&search=&price_min=&price_max=&a_4454=&a_1391=&a_1397=DVD&a_2264=&a_1392=&a_2525=1&a_2524=&a_2328=1&a_2518=&a_1396=&a_2326=&a_2327=&a_2878=&autofilter=on

Report back if JVC can deliver, or if they're just scamming like Panasonic.

Due to the problems with burned DVD-As, I'd be cautious of any but the Pioneer or Denon players for DVD-A playback.
My Harmon-Kardan sounds great when it finally gets going, but what a huge pain in the ass to get repeatable, seemless playback.
And it won't feed 24/192 to my DAC     :'(
And sometimes I must hit eject(!) to get it to play a burned disc.
Their helpdesk refuses to support Circula or Discwelder created DVD-As.  (bastards)

Which begs the question...does anyone make a DVD-A player that passes 24/192 stereo to the digi-out ?
