JB3 not responding
« on: April 01, 2004, 01:56:25 AM »
Hello all... I went out to tape Lotus in Trenton, NJ tonight (awesome show). Unfortunately, I couldn't tape. I went to power up the JB3 and it didn't respond at all. After tinkering for a few minutes, I chalked it up as "lesson learned- confirm that the batts are charged". Bummer. And, No.9 on tap was done before I got there.  :'(

So, I get home and plug in the JB3 and notice that the charging indicator doesn't come on. After unplugging, replugging, and every double check, I pop out the battery. Hmmm... after I install the battery after 30 seconds, the JB3 fires right up. Whew...

So, any ideas why it was non-responsive before I pulled the battery?  ??? I can't wait for my stand and Superluxes arrive tomorrow. No more patches!  8)

Not sure why, but mine was freezing up or not wanting to power up.  I did the format OS option...now obviously if you have anything on there you want you will have to transfer it because formatting wipes the drive clean.  But now after every show I tape and transfer I delete the files and do the disc cleanup.  Been working fine.

Uhhh, you did OS reload or format hard drive?  I don't think "format OS" is an option.

im gonna offer an idea that is all hardware related- have you taken out your batteries and just wiped down the leads on them?  it might be oil on the contacts that is also part of the problem

I thought about the battery contacts. Out of habit, I wiped down the contacts. hmmm.... I don't want to reformat or tinker with the OS just yet.

Kev, I wouldn't bother with a reformat or reload OS just yet at all.

Mine does that from time to time, seemed to happen more when I first got it.  Wouldn't turn on, as if the on button wasn't responding to my pressing it (or holding it).  Just popped off the back of the case, pulled the battery so that it lost contact, slid it in and it powered up itself.

It happens!  Lesson learned, try the battery trick ;D

I just dropped my JB3 off my desk and onto the basement floor :(   On accident, not trying the "D8 5 foot test" :P  Seems okay, plays fine--but I'm still a little shaded out!

Thanks for all the input. I thnik I am going to leave it go for a while. Hopefully it was a one-time fluke. +T's all around.

The jb3 locks up like that and you need to take the batteries out or reset if you had plugged in too high of a voltage... anywhere along the line before the show did you use another external power source for your jb3 (home battery pack, or different dc cable)?

It -may- have been plugged into the wall charger for a few days (not sure). Tonight, I am going to record a show and let the battery die afterwards.

format w/ a paperclip

For some reason that cracked me up.  I can just picture you attacking the hard drive with a paper clip.  Ok, I'm a dork :P
