are these (http://www.markertek.com/Product.asp?baseItem=NC3MRX&cat=CABLESCONN&subcat=ACONNECT&prodClass=XLRCON&mfg=&search=0&off=) the one's you're considering?  I've been looking into making some cables too.

partsexpress.com takes paypal.
fwiw...
handy.  their prices are ok, but not the best out there.  You might end up paying $5 more in total through them on a small order.
but they have everything you need, sans the new neutrik xlrs.

Are these the "stubby" RAs?

Are these the thinnest?
The RX connectors:

these are smaller than the other nutirik xlrs, but not as "stubby" as what some people are modifing.  This (http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,84191.30.html) thread has pictures both of some custom shorty xlrs (first page,) as well as the new neutrk xlrs (my post 3rd page) so you can probably get an idea of the size differences.  Hope this helps.

If the above retailers are out of stock of your needed xlr's, mouser.com is another place to try. My experience with them was smooth. Other retailers were back ordered, so I gave them a try. No complaints, very fast shipping. My experiences with the others have been good as well.

The new (slimmer) RA Neutriks fit all of my gear fine.

The ones I ordered came from mouser as well.  Every other place was out of them.  Mouser at least had the nickel in stock (would've preferred the black)   I ended up ordering everything else from Parts Express

That's precisely what happened to me as well. While I preferred black housing, time was a factor and I settled for (Mouser had in stock) the nickel with silver contacts. However, the nickel color has since grown on me with the Techflex color I used. A blessing in disguise.  8)

one thing about these...
they are thin...but LONG.
the old style RAs are a more compact design, overall...its just the housing is a little wide for some of our gear.

fyi, these are 600x easier to solder than the old right-angle neutriks

I got mine from markertek, and mouser rounded out the females, which were out of stock

A note on these: The housing can be oriented over 180 degrees in five positions (45 deg increments) relative to the pins. This is cool, but for me it's the wrong 180 degrees  >:(

I started on a couple plain XLR IC's last night w/ them to feed my mixing board, which has the F XLR jacks on its top surface. I wanted RA connectors so the cables would flow off parallel to the board instead of sprouting up out it. The board's jacks are such that in use, the 3 XLR pins make an upside down triangle, like this:

x   x
  x

Well I soldered up and went to slide the housing together so the cables would point straight off the top of my board and NO DICE! They could point straight left, straight right, straight AT ME across the channel strips, or 45 to left or right of straight at me. Totally bass ackwards.

Luckily, it's easy to cut a new notch for the housing's key to slide into, at whatever orientation you want, with a dremel tool. Or even a tiny file would work. Why on earth Neutrik didn't just make all eight 45 degree positions available I don't know. Even just 4 positions NSEW would I think be more useful. My DIY notch is a little sloppy compared tot the factory ones, so the pin assembly will rotate just a couple degrees relative to the housing, but i don't expect that to be a big deal at all.

Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up that these may not do what you thought, but can be made to.

Peace,
Sanaka
