Grace m902 headphone amp >
« on: November 28, 2004, 10:15:30 AM »
just saw this:
http://www.gracedesign.com/news/m902%20preliminary%20info.pdf

improvements over model 901:
*has 24/192 DAC (instead of 24/96).  however, I only see one AES input on the back, so I'm not exactly sure how that works
*USB connection
*Line out RCA connections in back, for easier use as system pre-amp and DAC
*has "s-Lock" feature to reduce jitter, similar to m904 and m906.  I don't believe the 901 has this
* has crossfeed circuitry, to similate speakers while listening on headphones

other than that, it's very similar to the model 901.  pretty interesting...

I've had the 901 for almost a year now, and I love it.  for monetary reasons, I don't think I'll make the switch to the m902, although it is tempting.  I'm sure the 902 will be a fantastic unit, and I'd definitely reccomend it (and a pair of grado cans :) )

true, no one has heard it.  I guess I should qualify my statement with "if it sounds anything like the 901, I would definitely reccomend it"  :)

I'm only now seeing a thread about the m902 on Oade's board.

http://www.oade.com/Tapers_Section/Forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=101&topic_id=663&mesg_id=663&page=

on that thread, Michael Grace chimes in with some specific differences and upgrades between the 901 and 902...

i've heard it through headphones at the aes convention this year.  I've never heard music sound so good through headphones....simply stellar product.  Then again i guess it depends on your headphones.  they had some great sennheiser ones at the convention.  If you have good headphones the frequency response is so even and smooth.  lots of detail.  you can hear exactly what you put through it.  don't know how the DAC sounds through speakers ....they didn't have it setup for that.

on the downside it's gonna be expensive and i probably won't ever be able to get one unless i get rich.
