I've been though a few speaker cables and several different interconnects from agon.   Thats the first place I go without hesitation.   I bottom feed and then when I move on I can sell quickly for about what I paid.  If you are patient and have cash available, agon can yield fantastic results.

buying used cable is probably safer than buying active components because there is hardly anything that can go wrong with a passive component.  The main issue with cables is that they should be in stock condition or the resale value goes very low.  There have been some counterfeit cables out of asia.  There have been people in the US who buy very long lengths of used cables, chop them up, reterminate and sell the shorter cables as if they are authentic factory terminations.  But most of those issues are related to a few high end popular brands.  The only thing to look for is that the terminations are factory original terminations.  Pictures should reveal that they are in decent shape and some web sites, like cardas, have guides to help identify cables as counterfeit or authentic.

What sort of cables are you looking for?   What price rang?  what associated gear?

I've had good luck with MIT MH750 and AP silver and oval 9 cables, all less than $300 the pair.  If you looking for lower cost, you might consider trying some of the silver clad cables that some people on this site make.

If you're looking for something inexpensive, I just picked up a set of these in 2.5 meter (8.25') for $94, nicely constructed cable for under $100.  I have a set of thier "Julian" cables, honestly I think the only difference is the aesthetics.  Just in basic material cost alone, I don't think you could really make a pair much cheaper (wire/techflex/shrink tube/connectors). I think they have a 60 or 90 day money back if you're not happy with them, that buys a little time for burn-in and listening.

If you're looking for something a little more, audiogon (for the reasons above) is a great route, I wouldn't hesitate to buy used cables if they're in good condition.

It's the same construction as thier "Julian" and "St. Julian" cable

I have a pair of silver clad cables that you ca  literally have.  I think they are dh labs t-14 or something like that.  PM me your address and I can grab them at lunch.  Just pass them on to someone here if/when you decide to upgrade.

I've listened to a bunch of speaker cable ..., but never anything beyond a $1500 price tag I suppose.
that said, the best i'd heard was the Gregg Stralley stuff.  pure copper.  really stiff, and just slick as shit all around.  virtual reality cables, I believe.

Then I started making cables for myself with 6ga silver plated mill-spec stuff.  I put them in my system for about a month.  really enjoyed them.
then put the Stralleys back in for a few days...
and then put the silvers back in last night....and i'm very happy w/the sound of them.  At least through my monitors.

I'll gladly build anyone a pair of these bad boys.  they are pretty slick.
