Title: Audio Question- Need a fast answer
Post by: ace_92029 on February 10, 2006, 06:11:39 AM
Just bought the M Audio 24 bit/96khz recorder.  I am taping aerosmith from the front row of the balconey in an arena with about 15,000 people.  So I will be about 150 feet from the stage I figure.  It's an indoor arena and kind of echoey...not great accoustics.  It's a sports arena where they play lots of hockey.

Anyway I have 2 mics to choose from.  The omni stereo mic that came with the recorder and a new mic I bought from Rode that is a condensor cardiod microphone.   Which do you think would get me better sound quality overall?   I can only bring one mic with me so I have to decide before hand.

Thanks-

The built-in mic will be useless for this.  Make sure you can yell into any mic you would use from about 3" away without clipping and you should be fine.  You will probably need an attenuator to reduce the output of the mic (unless it has one built in).  You should test the rig at an unimportant show before the big show and read a bunch of threads on the quirks of the MT.
