Need help picking out mic stand (Buffalo, NY )
« on: June 04, 2008, 01:19:54 PM »
I have an olympus LS-10 so I picked up  a digital recorder/mic stand adapter so I can mount it on a mic stand. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Video-Camera-Digital-Recorder-Mic-Stand-Adapter_W0QQitemZ350065719116QQihZ022QQcategoryZ29948QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Now I want to pick up a mic stand before the Disco Biscuits show tomorrow here in Buffalo. Do I just need to get any mic stand with a boom attachment? Will that work? Also I'm picking up a radio flyer wagon umbrella as well. Is there anything else that I need to consider?

Many thanks in advance.

-Pete

P.S. If anyone is going to this show and has an extra mic/pre-amp I'd like to test out this recorder with some external mics as we don't currently have results for how this will sound.

a boom stand will work but its not your best bet
typically you want a light stand, not a mic stand
here is a link to one for example http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/67822-REG/Avenger_A100_A100_Steel_Light_Stand.html
you can find ones much cheaper, thats just an example
then you get an adaptor for the top to hook your tbar onto such as
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

Thanks for the reply. Will that adapter that I linked above work with a light stand? Are the threaded ends generally the same as the mic stand?

i have 2 stands and they both have 3/8 end
the one also has a 5/8 (it flips over)
if the stand you get only has 3/8 then you need a 3/8 > 5/8 adapter, which is like $5 i think

check this
http://micsupply.com/standproducts.htm
you can get a adapter with the 2nd adapter for $17 (that way no matter what size end your stand has you are set) plus they have stands for around $80

You might be able to pick up a clamp at guitar center or another music store that'll allow you to clamp onto someone else's stand at the Square on Thursday.  Delaware Camera will have the light stands, but will not likely have the right adapters.  Make sure you have wind screens for your mics, and if you do get a stand, some tent stakes should be in you gear bag for the shows.

The only thing I can find in town is a mic stand with boom that will reach about 7 feet. Is that high enough?

So.. how'd it go?  How was the disco biscuits?  I hope the crowd, weather, and band were all awesome.   I'll be in Buffalo on Saturday and Sunday.  I have 2 stands, and could probably be convinced to sell ya one.   I'll pm you my cell number if you want to get together and check them out.  Dan
