R-1 transfer tip!!
« on: January 01, 2006, 12:06:27 PM »
Word to the wise for those taping with the R-1:

Do not attempt to transfer from the R-1 to your computer through usb if the R-1's battery is low. It does not draw power from your computer. I thought I'd royally fucked a NYE recording, but I plopped my CF card into my card reader (which takes power from the pc) and everything was fine. I will use this method from now on. Almost had a heart attack though, daaaamn!

from the manual, page 44:

when connecting the r-1 to your computer via a USB cable, you must use the AC adaptor to prevent the batteries from running down while connected.

I guess not everybody reads every last detail of the manual. I figure the warning is still useful to those (like me) who haven't taken the time to go through their product manual with a fine-toothed comb.

Thanks for pointing that out, though.
