Title: Panasonic FZ150K recommended external mic for concert recording
Post by: Keith Hook on March 01, 2012, 10:02:36 PM
Contemplating buying the Panasonic FZ150K hybrid camera to record concerts. The picture quality is excellent. The internal mic is horrible, but the camera has an external mic input which is rare on these superzooms. Can anyone recommend a good external concert mic for under $250? Looking for something small with decent quality low frequency response that won't clip out under heavy bass.

Can't you just use a 1/8" > 1/8" cable run from the headphone jack of you small digital recorder and adjust the levels on that?

That is a badass camera.  I have a FZ35 and I will upgrade to the 150 someday.  Full 1080p/60p and CMOS sensor.

Panasonic announced the DMC-FZ200 (http://www.dpreview.com/previews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz200/) a few days ago.  What's really impressive about the fz200 is that it has an F2.8 maximum aperture across the entire zoom range (24x, 25-600mm equivalent) which should result in excellent low light performance.  While it does have a new 12.1mp 1/2.33" MOS image sensor I think it's a shame it doesn't have Panny's micro 4/3 sensor, even if that means giving up some zoom range.  It has a msrp of $599.
