Title: suggestions for m10 plug-ins for nature sounds -under $200??
Post by: anatta on September 26, 2010, 02:48:28 PM
Can anyone suggest a set of sensitive external omnis for (M10), to be used for recording nature sounds (ocean, waterfalls, wind on leaves, etc,).  Would like to keep it simple with just mic-in, and stay aroind $200, or less if possible.  Help is appreciated.

thanks

Sound Pros SP-CMC-4U (AT u853's) with omni caps and no low sensitivity mod might be good. I love Church Audio mics, but they are all low sensitivity. Price is $199. I don't know if any of the cheaper SP's omnis would be as good or better, but someone else here might know.

I imagine you've checked this out already, but unless you are going to be using a preamplifier, it would be worth giving the M10's internals a shot first. They are said to be low noise and very good for ambient recordings.

I make a set using mini earbud headphones for $120 per pair no battery box needed.

Search for some posts by a user with the handle "illconditioned".  I think he has posted about several mics he found to work well with the M10's plug-in power.

He did mention the AT853's and the CA-11's as 2 that work well. The CA-11's are high sensitivity though.
